Sudha Murthy is an Indian author, philanthropist, and social worker. She was born on August 19, 1950, in Shiggaon, a small town in the Indian state of Karnataka. 


As an author, Murthy has written several books, both in English and Kannada. Her books often focus on social issues or are for children. Some of her popular books include "Wise and Otherwise," "The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk," and "How I Taught My Grandmother to Read and Other Stories."

Murthy along with her husband, N.R. Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, has set up the Infosys Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports various causes such as education, rural development, healthcare, and arts. 


Murthy has been actively involved in promoting education, particularly for underprivileged children. She has set up several schools in rural areas of Karnataka, including the Murthy Institute of Technology and Management in Doddaballapur.

Murthy holds a degree in electrical engineering from the B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology in Karnataka. She also holds a master's degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.


Murthy has also been involved in various philanthropic initiatives, such as providing clean drinking water to villages, supporting cancer research, and helping to build libraries and community centers.


In 2006, Sudha Murthy was awarded the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature for her contributions to Indian literature in English.
